The Salvation Army Extends Heartfelt Thanks to the Central Okanagan Community for Wildfire Support
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE The Salvation Army Extends Heartfelt Thanks to the Central Okanagan Community for Wildfire Support Central Okanagan, BC (September 9, 2026) – As The Salvation Army Okanagan Central reflects on the recent wildfire season and the challenges many residents faced in August, the organization is extending its sincere gratitude to the community for the extraordinary support shown during a time of crisis. The Bradley Creek, Quilpituk, and Bald Range wildfires had a profound impact on individuals and families across the region. Many residents were forced from their homes, facing uncertainty, loss, and unexpected financial hardship. While some families have since returned home, others continue to navigate the ongoing effects of property damage, lost possessions, and the disruption of daily life. Throughout the initial response phase, The Salvation Army worked alongside community partners to provide immediate assistance to those affected. More than 5,000 meals and snacks were served to evacuees and first responders, and over $75,000 in practical assistance was distributed. Support included emergency relief grants, gas and grocery gift cards, clothing, hygiene products, and other essential items. Volunteers with the organization also contributed more than 500 hours of service to support wildfire response efforts. The ability to provide this assistance was made possible through the remarkable generosity of the Central Okanagan community. Individuals, businesses, churches, legislative offices, charitable organizations, and donors came together to offer financial contributions, food donations, essential supplies, and countless acts of kindness. As recovery efforts continue, The Salvation Army remains committed to supporting those impacted by the wildfires. Community donations will help families replace essential household items, access recovery supports tailored to their unique circumstances, and receive ongoing assistance as they work toward rebuilding their lives. “The outpouring of support we witnessed throughout the wildfire response was truly inspiring," said Jennifer Henson, Officer/Pastor, The Salvation Army Okanagan Central. "We are deeply grateful for the volunteers, churches, businesses, organizations, and individuals who responded with such generosity and compassion. The willingness of so many people to serve, give, and care for their neighbours made a meaningful difference in the lives of those affected by the wildfires.” “The response to these wildfires was a powerful reminder of what can happen when people come together in service of others," said Rob Henson, Officer/Pastor, The Salvation Army Okanagan Central. "Churches throughout our region, alongside countless community partners and volunteers, demonstrated extraordinary compassion and care for those who were hurting. We are deeply grateful for the many acts of kindness that reflected the very best of our community and helped bring hope to people when they needed it most.” In the face of adversity, the Okanagan community demonstrated the compassion, resilience, and generosity that make the region such a remarkable place to call home. The Salvation Army is honoured to have played a role in supporting those affected and extends its heartfelt thanks to everyone who contributed to the response and recovery efforts. As individuals and families continue to navigate the impacts of the wildfires, community support remains vital. Hope 4 Kids Campaign Surpasses $82,000
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Hope 4 Kids Campaign Surpasses $82,000 Central Okanagan, B.C. – August 14, 2026 – The Salvation Army Okanagan Central’s second annual Hope 4 Kids Summer Campaign has raised more than $82,000 toward its $125,000 goal, helping local children and youth access opportunities their families may otherwise struggle to afford. Hope 4 Kids helps cover costs for things like sports, swimming lessons, counselling and mental wellness supports, tutoring, art and cooking programs, summer camps, and other activities that help kids learn, grow and belong. “We are so grateful for the way our community has gotten behind Hope 4 Kids,” said Captain Jennifer Henson, Officer and Pastor at The Salvation Army Okanagan Central. “Every donation means another opportunity to say yes to a child or family who needs a little help. We’ve made great progress, but we still have a ways to go, and we would love to see our community help us reach that $125,000 goal.” Last year, the first Hope 4 Kids campaign raised $104,323, surpassing its $100,000 goal. This year’s larger goal reflects the continued need among families across the Central Okanagan. Already this summer, Hope 4 Kids has helped children attend camp, take part in sports and recreation, access lessons and receive other important supports. For one local child facing significant personal challenges, funding provided the opportunity to participate in horseback riding — something that has brought comfort and joy during a difficult season. “For families already stretched by the cost of living, things like sports, camps and lessons are often the first things that have to go,” said Captain Rob Henson, Officer and Pastor at The Salvation Army Okanagan Central. “Hope 4 Kids is about making sure finances don’t have to be the reason a child misses out.” Community members can donate online through okanagancentralsalvationarmy.ca, in person at 1480 Sutherland Avenue, or by calling 250-860-2329. Shoppers can also add a donation to Hope 4 Kids at the till at The Salvation Army thrift stores in Rutland and Westbank. Hope 4 Kids Summer Campaign Raises More Than $132,000, Exceeding Goal to Support Local Children and Youth
Hope 4 Kids Summer Campaign Raises More Than $132,000, Exceeding Goal to Support Local Children and Youth Community support helps local children access camps, sports, counselling, and other life-changing opportunities FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Central Okanagan, B.C. – September 28, 2026 – The Salvation Army Okanagan Central's second annual Hope 4 Kids Summer Campaign has surpassed its fundraising goal, raising more than $132,000 to help local children and youth access opportunities their families may otherwise struggle to afford. The campaign ran from July 1 to August 31 and brought together donors, volunteers, businesses, and community partners from across the Central Okanagan. Funds raised through Hope 4 Kids help cover costs for sports, swimming lessons, counselling and mental wellness supports, tutoring, art and cooking programs, summer camps, and other activities that help children learn, grow, and belong. "We are incredibly grateful for the generosity of our community," said Captain Jennifer Henson, Officer and Pastor at The Salvation Army Okanagan Central. "Reaching and surpassing this goal means more children will have opportunities to participate, grow, and thrive. Every donation represents hope for a child and support for a family who may be facing financial challenges." This year's campaign set a goal of $125,000, building on the success of last year's inaugural Hope 4 Kids campaign, which raised $104,323 and exceeded its $100,000 goal. The increased target reflected the growing need among families across the Central Okanagan as many continue to face financial pressures and rising living costs. Hope 4 Kids funding helped children attend camp, participate in sports and recreation, access lessons, and receive other important supports that contribute to their healthy development and well-being. Real Stories, Real Impact Thanks to Hope 4 Kids, a local teen from a family new to Canada was able to attend summer camp and enjoy an opportunity that might otherwise have been out of reach. The experience helped them build confidence, make new friends, try new activities, and gain greater independence. Inspired by the experience, the teen has already expressed interest in volunteering at camp in the future so other young people can enjoy the same opportunity. In another case, a local single parent was connected to a horseback riding program for their child during a particularly difficult season of life. The parent shared that watching their child eagerly count down the days until each lesson brought joy, confidence, and a renewed sense of wonder. The experience gave the young person a chance to simply be a kid while providing hope and encouragement for the entire family. "The impact of Hope 4 Kids goes far beyond the dollars raised," added Captain Rob Henson. "It is seen in the lives of children who gain new opportunities, discover new interests, and build confidence because their community chose to invest in them." The Salvation Army Okanagan Central extends sincere thanks to everyone who contributed to the campaign, including donors, volunteers, community supporters, and local businesses that helped raise awareness and encourage giving throughout the summer. Gearing Up For Fall and Winter Programs While the Hope 4 Kids Summer Campaign has concluded, support for local children and families continues year-round through The Salvation Army Okanagan Central's programs and services. As the holiday season approaches, the organization is preparing for its annual Christmas Kettle Campaign and Gifts of Hope program, which provide vital support to individuals and families throughout the Central Okanagan.
